Privacy Policy

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Controller: [COMPANY NAME], [JURISDICTION] · Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL]

MockMate is an AI mock-interview platform. Candidates practice voice interviews with an AI interviewer, receive an AI-generated report, and can optionally make a vetted profile discoverable to recruiters. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights.

1. Data we collect

You provide: account email, password (stored only as a salted hash), optional name; profile details (display name, target role, experience level, bio, résumé text, skills, country, work-authorization status, languages, links, projects, "open to work"); and any job description you paste.

Generated when you take an interview: an audio recording of the interview, a turn-by-turn transcript with timestamps, AI assessment data (scores, per-question feedback, competency ratings, an estimated cost figure), and your coach chat messages.

Collected automatically: technical/usage data (IP address, browser/user-agent, request origin, session identifiers, a login token in your browser's localStorage) and, if enabled, product-analytics events.

Sensitive/biometric note: an interview recording is your voice and may be treated as biometric or special-category data under some laws (e.g. GDPR Art. 9, Illinois BIPA). We process recordings only with your consent. You can decline recording-related sharing and still use practice features.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. AI processing & automated assessment

Your interview is conducted and scored by AI models. Assessments are automated and may be inaccurate — they are practice/guidance, not a definitive measure of ability or a hiring decision. Where a recruiter uses MockMate signals to evaluate you, that recruiter (not MockMate) makes any employment decision. If you have rights regarding automated decision-making, contact us.

4. Recruiter sharing (opt-in)

Your profile is private by default. Only if you enable "share with recruiters" can vetted recruiters discover your profile and interview-derived badge and competency signals. Interview recordings are not shared with recruiters by default — a recruiter can access a recording only if you give a separate, explicit grant for that referral. You can withdraw sharing consent at any time. Recruiter access is logged.

5. Who we share data with

We use third-party sub-processors to run the service — AI model providers (transcription, speech, and language models that process your audio/transcript/résumé), our hosting provider, and (if enabled) an analytics provider. Some are located outside your country (e.g. the United States); where required we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. The current list is maintained in our Sub-processors document. We also load fonts/scripts from third-party CDNs that may receive your IP address.

6. Retention

We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. You can delete your account, recordings, and chat history in-app. Note that deleted data may persist in encrypted disaster-recovery backups for up to ~6 months before rotation.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). We restrict access, hash passwords (bcrypt), rate-limit sensitive endpoints, and keep an audit log of sensitive actions. No system is perfectly secure.

8. Your rights

GDPR/UK: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent at any time; you may complain to your data-protection authority. CCPA/CPRA (California): the right to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale/sharing (we do not sell), and limit use of sensitive information; no discrimination for exercising rights. To exercise any right, email [CONTACT EMAIL].

9. Cookies & local storage

We use localStorage to hold your login token (necessary). If analytics are enabled, identifiers may be set. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

10. Children

MockMate is not directed to children under [16/18] and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11. Changes

We may update this policy and will post a new effective date; for material changes we will notify you.
